Exciting opportunity to work for one of Canberra’s largest community sector organisations. We’re looking for a passionate and experiences specialist behaviour support practitioner to join our Clinical Service team in Canberra. Working as part of a team of psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists, you’ll provide person centred functional and environmental assessments and interventions to promote independence and quality of life.


The Role


Your role as a specialist behaviour support practitioner with CatholicCare will be to work with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Mental Illness and other Complex Diagnoses and their formal and informal support networks. Working from a Person Centred and Trauma Informed approach, you will be responsible for assessing, designing and delivering interventions as well as monitoring and evaluating the implementation of positive behaviour support plans in line with National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) guidelines. With a focus on developing and implementing positive behaviour support plans which support individuals to reach their potential, within the role, you will:

  • Complete assessments and analysis of risk and behaviours of concern.
  • Develop, deliver and monitor positive behaviour support strategies both internally and externally.
  • Provide goal-oriented services that are timely, efficient and effective based on client needs
  • Provide clinical knowledge, expertise and support to clients in our programs and the wider community.
  • Build strong positive relationships with all relevant stakeholders including a client’s family
  • Abide to all the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission requirements, the NDIA Terms of Business and any State Based Restricted Practice Authorisation requirements.

Selection Criteria


The ideal person we are looking for has:

  • Tertiary qualification in a related health field such as Psychology, Social Work or similar.
  • Experience delivering Specialist Behaviour Support Services under the NDIS.
  • Strong understanding of positive behaviour support approaches including the use and reporting of Restrictive Practices.
  • Commitment to delivering evidence based practice and ongoing training and development
  • Hold a certificate demonstrating completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
  • Have an understanding of EEO, Work Safety and confidentiality
To be considered for this role you will be also required to hold:
  • a current drivers licence, and
  • a Working with Vulnerable People’s Card (if working in the ACT)
  • a Working with Children Check (if working in NSW)
