Exciting opportunity to work for one of Canberra’s largest community sector organisations. The Child trauma treatment team provides a multi-disciplinary approach to treating child trauma. The child team offers assessment and treatment of children who have experienced trauma using an evidence based, multi-disciplinary team approach. CatholicCare are looking for an enthusiastic family worker to support children and their families, in their child trauma treatment program. We are looking for a family worker who has expertise working with children under 12 and their families. Applicants looking for a full time or part time position will be considered.

The Role

The key responsibilities of the Family Worker will be to provide support within a care coordination framework to children (and their families) aged 0-12 years who have experienced trauma. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team (with an OT and psychologists), the family worker will assist the children and their families to navigate the service system and improve their functioning at school and in relationships.

Selection Criteria

The ideal person we are looking for has:

  • Qualification in social work or relevant human services field.
  • Experience working with children who have experienced trauma.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations and to manage risk.
  • Commitment to delivering evidence based practice.
  • Willingness to reflect on, review and challenge current practice and an openness to training and development.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and good time management skills
  • Have an understanding of EEO, Work Safety and confidentiality
