The Role

CatholicCare is seeking a College Counsellor to provide therapeutic counselling and/or group work around particular issues to university students aged 17-24. There will be opportunities to provide wellbeing activities and training sessions with the student leadership team. The counsellor will be part of the Pastoral Care team at the university beginning in 2022.

Your role entails:

  • Individual counselling with college residents
  • Develop and implement therapeutic/psychoeducational groups for the residents
  • Develop and implement professional development for student leadership team
  • Practice according to social work and psychology ethics /values and practice principles
  • Ensure that clinical and administrative standards are maintained in accordance with the Program’s policies

Ideal person

The ideal person we are looking for has:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology with AHPRA registration or Social Work eligible for membership with AASW or Degree qualified Counsellors with registration with PACFA or ACA
  • Counselling experience or knowledge of counselling skills, particularly in relation to issues facing university students,
  • Ability to run wellbeing activities and present training sessions to student leaders,
  • Ability to liaise effectively with and provide consultation to college staff and to promote the service to the college community,
  • Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations and to students presenting with complex issues
  • Ability to provide written and verbal reports; statistical data where needed
  • Flexible working hours with the possibility to work some after-hours work

You will also be required to undergo a National Police Check. To be considered for this role you will be also required to hold:

  • a current drivers licence, and
  • a Working with Vulnerable People Card
