Was your property affected by Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation (Mr Fluffy) in the ACT? CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn provide a free therapeutic support group for homeowners or tenants of affected properties and you are invited.
About the Mr Fluffy Therapeutic Support Group
This free group provides a safe space for residents to connect, access support and information and share their experiences. The therapeutic group is held once every two months, and each group runs for two hours at one of the CatholicCare sites.
The therapeutic support group is facilitated by clinicians including psychologists and mental health accredited social workers. The group framework is embedded in strengths-based recovery, utilising evidence-based practise to bring about a sense of hope and recovery. Participants are offered an opportunity to learn about the impacts of long term stress, explore helpful strategies and enhance support networks.
Attendance is voluntary and individuals can choose when and how they would like to engage with the support group.
Each session, the facilitators will cover different topics and skills that you can incorporate in your daily practices. Below is a list of the topics we will cover in the upcoming group sessions:
14 September 2020 – Understanding the effects of trauma and finding hope
9 November 2020 – Is your thinking working with you or against you?
8 February 2021 – The body and stress: using meditation to calm the mind
12 April 2021 – Healing invisible wounds: the benefits of arts therapy
14 June 2021 – Healthy body, healthy mind

Understanding the effect and management of stress
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were required to temporarily suspended face-to-face group activities. Instead, we have created a short webinar and a workbook for those navigating the Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation Eradication Scheme. These resources focus on techniques to manage the stress and may also be helpful for others with experiences with Mr Fluffy.
